YOUR SESSION

Welcome! If you have booked in a shoot, I suggest you take a look at the information below before your session to ensure you get the most out of it:

PREPARATION

What makes a good shoot?

Character and personality is my main goal. I want parents to look back at their pictures over time and identify that connection, smile or emotion.

Lighting is key for a good photo session. I usually shoot in the mornings or afternoon, and sometimes if we are doing an outside shoot, the magic hours in the morning or evening make fantastic photographs.

Location is what sets the tone for the shoot. Usually in your own home is where most little ones feel most comfortable and relaxed. I like to be able to shoot in a place that has sentimental value to the family, so home, or favourite park are usually the best option. Light is the most important thing for capturing THAT shot.

As you can tell from the images on my site, I tend to steer away from too posed or fluffy shots, my style is more natural, organic and simple.

Preparing for a shoot - what to wear?

I recommend shooting in neutral colours, such as white, cream, grays, pale blues and lavenders work well. For kids, I prefer clothing without cartoon characters on. Bright patterned rugs or backdrops can be used as part of the shoot. If there is a favourite pair of shoes, kids teddy, dress that wants to be captured we can incorporate that into a set up. It's important that clothing and accessories complement, not dominate the subject. I am also happy to do an outfit change, if you wanted.

Try to avoid wearing t-shirts with logos. These do not photograph well. The same colour palette is advised and works well. It is important to wear clothing you feel most comfortable in.

When shooting little ones, textured and pale-coloured blankets, wraps or swaddles also work well.

A mixed colour pallet works well for little ones. As for parents, you can wear colours, or prints, but please bear in mind what your spouces are wearing, as you will all be photographed together.

For maternity shoots, I recommend, something that is clingy colourful / patterned to show of that beautiful bump. Around the 8 month mark is the best time for this.

YOUR SESSION

Shooting Newborns & Little Ones

Shooting may take 1-3 hours, depending on your baby's routine, feeding and changing. The best time for shooting newborns is usually at 10-14 days old. Ideally, if the newborn can be stimulated before the shoot, they will be sleepy for the session, which makes things much easier.

Parents will also be fully involved to make the newborns and little ones relaxed and comfortable as possible. Mum and Dad will be asked to help assist positioning of the newborn to ensure complete safety for the shoot and help generate that special smile or giggle that we're after.

If you have any items or objects that you would like to be photographed with or that are meaningful to the family, feel free to include them. We can discuss ways to incorporate them into the shoot.

POST SHOOT

Viewing the images & post-production

I will email you with login details of an online gallery containing around 40+ images from the shoot for you to choose from, within 2 weeks of the session. You will then choose your favourite selects for me to retouch for printing.

From the date of placing the order, your photos should take about 2-3 weeks to be retouched and printed. If you require framing, it may take 3-4 weeks in total. Please let me know if there is a special date, that you require the photos by, so that we can be sure to deliver on time. All customers will receive their prints beautifully packaged in a gift box.

Art formats

We will find the best way to present your photos. Whether it be prints, frames, cards, or canvas, let me know what you would like and we will work together to make it possible.
